Guided by Deng Xiaoping’s principle of “orienting education towards modernisation, the world, and the future,” the school has developed distinctive characteristics in intelligent and personalised education. With a forward-looking educational philosophy, the school has striven to fulfil its mission of “laying foundation, building character, and serving society” since 1994, in line with its core values of “cultural foundation, independent development, and social engagement.” In this new era, the school integrates global educational resources to build an international campus, aiming to nurture students characterised by Chinese Identity, National Pride, Global Vision, and Leadership Character.

With a focus on personalised education and based on the national curriculum, the school has introduced six major international programmes, including PYP, MYP, DP, IGCSE, A-Level, and AP, to establish a curriculum system that is rooted in the Chinese curriculum while integrating both Chinese and international education. The project titled “Research into the Practice of Integrated Curriculum of National and International Education in the Bay Area Based on the Development of Core Values for Chinese Students” has been approved by the Development Centre for Textbooks of Elementary Education under the Ministry of Education, as well as the Research Institute for Textbooks. Meanwhile, the research outcomes and practical achievements of the “Integrated Curriculum” have been highly recognised by experts from the Development Centre for Textbooks of Elementary Education.

GCGS has been the first school in mainland China to be fully authorised to offer three IB programmes (PYP, MYP, and DP).

Bringing the world into the classroom, the school has developed a series of “action and knowledge” courses, including the “Hainan Exploring Activity” for the Primary Section, the “Youth Hiking for Cultural Exploration” for the Junior High Section, and “Ancient Silk Road Cycling,” “Cycling in Europe,” and “China Week – Service and Volunteering” for the Senior High Section. These courses incorporate action and adventure, service and responsibility, as well as interdisciplinary learning and collaboration. In particular, “Ancient Silk Road Cycling” has been reported by China Central Television (CCTV) and has received positive public responses.

With an emphasis on labour education, the school values both practical ability and reflective thinking, striving to develop students’ hands-on skills and creativity. Students are able to work in the Xinyue fields and gardens, planting trees and vegetables, as well as raising silkworms and fish. The school has also established a STEAM Centre and a series of Maker courses. Through these tiered programmes, students are able to grow into true Makers. The school is an experimental school for STEAM and Maker Education accredited by the Ministry of Education, as well as a Model School for Labour Education in Foshan.

The school has achieved outstanding academic results, with numerous graduates admitted to top universities worldwide, including the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, Princeton University, the University of Chicago, Columbia University, Cornell University, Tsinghua University, and Peking University. The admission rate to the world’s top 50 universities (QS and U.S. News rankings) has remained above 90% for ten consecutive years (2016–2025).
